Swenior SQL

Position Code: SQL-SAdmin

     Modern IT Partners is hiring a highly skilled SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support mission-critical systems within a federal government contracting environment. This role is responsible for maintaining secure, compliant, and high-performing database systems that support government programs, including regulated and audit-sensitive workloads.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, understands federal compliance frameworks, and can operate effectively in structured environments with strict change management and security controls.


Skills

As an enterprise developer, your skills, knowledge, and experience should encompass the following:

  • Strong experience with: 
    • Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022+)
    • T-SQL development and query tuning
    • Indexing, execution plans, and performance optimization
    • Familiarity with ETL pipelines, data warehousing, and reporting tools like Power BI, Tableau, and Crystal Reports.
    • Skills in monitoring and optimizing database performance, backups, replication, and high availability configurations.
  • Experience supporting regulated or government environments


        Knowledge of: 

  • Backup/restore and disaster recovery strategies
  • Security best practices and auditing
  • Structured change management processes
  • Experience troubleshooting high-priority production incidents
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting federal agencies (IRS, Treasury, DoD, etc.)
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks: 
    • FISMA, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP
  • Experience with Azure Government / AWS GovCloud
  • Knowledge of SSIS, SSRS, SSAS


Role Responsibilities:

  • Database Installation, Configuration & Maintenance
    • Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances (on‑prem, Azure VM, hybrid).
    • Configure SQL Server services, SQL Server Agent, and related components.
    • Manage server‑level and database‑level settings for performance, security, and compliance.
    • Apply service packs, cumulative updates, and hotfixes following change‑control procedures.
  • Backup, Recovery & High Availability
    • Design, implement, and maintain backup/restore strategies (full, diff, log).
    • Perform database restores, point‑in‑time recovery, and disaster recovery validation.
    • Configure and support high‑availability solutions such as:
      • Always On Availability Groups
      • Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)
      • Log Shipping
      • Replication
    • Conduct regular DR testing and maintain documentation for audit readiness.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization
    • Monitor SQL Server performance using DMVs, Query Store, PerfMon, Extended Events, and third‑party tools.
    • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks (CPU, memory, I/O, blocking, deadlocks).
    • Optimize indexes, statistics, and query execution plans.
    • Tune SQL Server configurations for workload patterns and SLAs.
  • Security, Compliance & Audit
    • Implement and enforce SQL Server security best practices (logins, roles, permissions).
    • Manage encryption (TDE, column‑level encryption, SSL/TLS).
    • Maintain audit trails and support compliance frameworks (NIST, FISMA, IRS Pub       1075, CJIS).
    • Conduct       vulnerability assessments and remediate findings.
    • Coordinate       with InfoSec teams on patching, hardening, and incident response.
  • Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
    • Monitor database health, capacity, and growth trends.
    • Manage routine maintenance tasks (index rebuilds, statistics updates, integrity checks).
    • Troubleshoot SQL Server Agent jobs, alerts, and scheduled tasks.
    • Support application teams with deployments, schema changes, and release activities.
  • Environment & Infrastructure Management
    • Manage SQL Server in virtualized and cloud environments (VMware, Hyper‑V, Azure).
    • Configure storage (SAN, NAS, local SSD) for optimal throughput and redundancy.
    • Work with system administrators on OS‑level tuning and resource allocation.
    • Maintain documentation for architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Development & Release Support
    • Support developers with database design, stored procedures, functions, and T‑SQL optimization.
    • Review and validate database changes for releases.
    • Participate in release testing, deployment validation, and rollback planning.
    • Ensure database changes follow SDLC, DevOps, and change‑management processes.
  • Monitoring, Automation & Scripting
    • Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, T‑SQL, and SQL Agent.
    • Implement proactive monitoring and alerting for performance, availability, and security.
    • Build dashboards and reports for capacity, health, and SLA compliance.
  • Incident Response & Troubleshooting
    • Respond to database outages, performance degradation, and critical incidents.
    • Perform root‑cause analysis (RCA) and implement long‑term corrective actions.
    • Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and security teams during major incidents.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Documentation
    • Provide clear communication to PMs, leadership, and technical teams.
    • Maintain detailed documentation for configurations, procedures, and system changes.
    • Participate in governance meetings, audits, and compliance reviews.


Position Qualifications 

 Master’s with at least 7+ years specialized experience or B.A or B.S with at least 10+ years specialized in SSQL system administration.

Knowledge of FISMA, NIST, IRS IT policies, and federal IT compliance standards is a plus.


Compensation:

         $90,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year depending on experience and qualifications.
